Mike and Maureen LaFontaine purchased the Pontiac Cadillac GMC store, which was located in Milford from the Lee Osborn Family in 1984. They had a vision to grow the LaFontaine Automotive Group, which originated in 1980 with LaFontaine Toyota in Dearborn, MI. They joined the Huron Valley Chambers of Commerce, and along with 20 employees, opened for business in Milford. Mike and Maureen knew that in order to serve the customers of the Huron Valley, they needed to expand the facility and stock more inventory.

In early 1987, LaFontaine opened a used car facility at their current location in Highland, with plans to build the current dealership at that location. They purchased a Michigan National Bank facility, which still had an operable banking vault and an ATM machine in the lobby, and, as Joe Blouin, General Manager, of the Automotive Group stated that, “it was quite a challenge in our infancy in Highland. Sometimes we weren’t sure if customers were entering the facility to buy a used car or withdrawal funds from the working ATM!” Blouin, as well as many other employees including Christine Russell, Controller of the automotive group and Salesman Bob Helz, have been with LaFontaine for over fifteen years. “The fact that many of our employees have been with us for over 10 years is a true testament to Mike and Maureen; their employees are truly members of the LaFontaine family,” Blouin exclaimed. In 1988, LaFontaine Pontiac Cadillac GMC opened the current showroom in Highland. With the support of the community, LaFontaine Pontiac Cadillac GMC has moved rapidly from selling 95 total vehicles in 1984, to over 2300 vehicles in 2003!

Over the last 20 years, LaFontaine has earned many prestigious awards including the Cadillac Master Dealer Award, as well as General Motors Mark of Excellence Awards for Pontiac, Cadillac, and GMC. The LaFontaine Automotive Group was 13th on the Crain’s list for sales in the year 2003.

LaFontaine offers Pontiac Cadillac and GMC Trucks. The Highland location is equipped with a full service and parts departments. The service department has won many awards and all technicians are General Motors and ASC certified. LaFontaine recently finished remodeling the service department to better serve our customers and have added an additional service writer to ensure that we are able to not only meet but exceed our customer’s expectations. The parts department specializes in genuine General Motors Parts that have a full factory warranty. The parts department also features a wide variety of accessories including wheels and tires that are competitively priced to enhance your vehicle!

LaFontaine Pontiac Cadillac GMC has always been, and will remain, family owned and operated. The General Managers of the Pontiac Cadillac GMC store are Ryan LaFontaine, Mike and Maureen’s youngest son, and Joe Blouin, Maureen’s brother. LaFontaine Pontiac Cadillac GMC is truly a unique place.

For many years, LaFontaine had been known as, “The Bare Bottom Dealer.” This slogan was created as an effort to communicate to our customers that we would give the best price on any vehicle possible. Recently, LaFontaine was looking for a slogan that harmonized their image. “The LaFontaine Family Deal,” was launched in early 2004.
